About the artist:

Wilhelmina Peace is an award-winning visual artist and printmaker based in Belfast. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she spent her formative years on the outskirts of Paris, France, before moving to Northern Ireland in 2009 to study Cultural Anthropology at Queen’s University Belfast.

Peace’s practice is deeply informed by her background in anthropology. Her work explores myth, fairytale, and folklore as frameworks through which she examines the inner processes of the human psyche and personal development. Rooted in traditions of Surrealism, Symbolism, Expressionism, and book illustration, and informed by an interest in outsider art, her practice follows an intuitive approach guided by a rich personal symbology drawn from memory and dream narratives. Through this visual language, she explores themes of metamorphosis, vulnerability, otherness, and belonging.

Her work has been exhibited widely across Ireland, the British Isles, and the United States, and is held in private collections in Northern Ireland, Ireland, England, Spain, France, Belgium, Norway, the United States, and Canada.
