Here at The Lemonade Press we offer artist residencies in Bristol, UK for visiting artists. These are designed for artists requiring studio access for a specific project or to spend time exploring ideas within the lithographic medium.

Residencies are split into two main types; either a learning residency or a collaborative residency.

Residents have used their time to learn new skills in lithography using a mixture of self directed and one-to-one tuition from a printer or to work collaboratively with a printer to make new lithograph/s.

Previous residents have come from a range of other disciplines to explore the medium supported by a printer.

Previous residents include: Josephine Birch, Liorah Tchiprout, Adam Forman, Daisy Dixon, Debbie Lee RWA, Eleanor Rodwell, Soraya Schofield, Claire Welch, Niamh Fahy, Veronique Mermaz, Katie Forrester.

There are two ways that artists can approach their residency:

Collaborative/ Production Residency

Resident artists can use the duration of their residency to develop new lithographic works in collaboration with a printer. The resulting print/s can then be signed off with an Approval To Print or Bon A Tirer and later edition printed by our printers here at the studio. Depending on the duration of the residency, the edition can be printed during this period.

This allows the artist to utilise the expertise of the printer to handle all the technical concerns of lithography and the printing whilst the artist can focus on the realisation of their concept. Guidance and advice are provided by the printer on all technical aspects.

Learning residency

Artists can learn new or refresh their existing skills during the learning residency to explore techniques and broaden their knowledge.  Please list the processes you would like to cover in your application proposal as some advance set up may be required. Previous resident artists have also taken one of our regular monthly classes guided by the printer  to learn the basics of a process in order to progress their ideas more clearly.

FAQ’s

Q – How does a ‘paired residency’ work?
A – We will select two artists, who have applied separately, to attend the residency together. We try to select artists whose practices compliment each other, and there is no expectation for the artists to collaborate. Please state on your application you would like a paired residency.

Q – Will I need to donate a piece of artwork to the residency?
A – No, all work created by you during the residency is your own – we may ask your permission to share images of work you have created.
Q – Am I able to pay in instalments
A – Yes, we can arrange a manageable payment plan to suit your needs.

Q – Will there be tuition?
A – That depends on the individual. Please let us know in your application if you are applying for a learning or a collaborative / production residency. We are more than happy to work around the needs of the project, so a combination of the two residence types can be accommodated.
