3 Days: Photoplate Lithography

Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th & Friday 11th & Saturday

10am – 4pm

This three day workshop is a full introduction to creating and printing your own lithograph. Choose to print three separate images or a three colour image. Perfect for illustrators, book artists, collage enthusiasts or printmaking lovers in general.

• Try using a whole host of drawing materials such as pastels, crayons, washes, stamps, cut out collage pieces, printed acetates to make your image.
• The image is then exposed in a light box to capture the tones and textures of the image layer that is made into a printing plate.
• The plate is then placed in a tray and developed and the image appears
• The plate is taken to the printing press and alternately sponged and inked and then printed onto paper.

You will be shown you how to prepare, expose and develop your plate, how to mix inks, handle a spindle roller and print a small edition of your work. If you would like to incorporate digital imagery, then bring along a laser printed acetate (printed in black ink) or ask us to arrange printing an acetate for you.

Photoplate lithography can pick up some incredible subtle details, which makes it a real catch! Jump at the chance to learn this new skill and get plenty of guidance from the experienced tutor along the way.
